BLUES FOR HARD TIMES is the latest Blue Empress/Vizztone release from internationally acclaimed blues artist, Fiona Boyes. This new recording is a stripped back, traditional album featuring a mixture of acoustic and electric small ensemble performances and 6 solo tracks.
In keeping with her previous albums, ‘Lucky 13’ and ‘Blueswoman’, Fiona takes the listener on a road tour of Blues styles, including the Mississippi Hills, Delta slide and ragtime, late 20’s women’s barrelhouse, early Chicago, New Orleans/Louisiana country blues, and Piedmont finger-picking. Recorded at Wire Studios in Austin, TX, with Kaz Kazanoff as producer and Stuart Sullivan as engineer, BLUES FOR HARD TIMES captures Fiona’s extraordinary skills as a guitarist and songwriter that rank her among the world’s leading blues women.
